I spent six weeks studying Arabic at Saifi, and looking back, I can only say that this place exceeded every expectation I had. From the very first day I felt genuinely welcome — in a way you don’t often experience at language schools. People remembered my name, asked how I was doing, asked about my weekend plans, and actively thought along with me about where to go and how to get there. It creates a warm, encouraging climate where you simply want to learn.
A special word of praise for Ahmed, who had a major impact on my experience. His classes were playful, varied, and full of energy — exactly what I needed after having focused mostly on speaking before coming to Saifi. He is openhearted, and from time to time he offers a rich, thoughtful window into his perspectives on politics, history, and society. Those moments were deeply interesting and added so much depth to the course. And yes — we even shot a short drama film with our advanced class, which was great fun and something I’ll remember for a long time.
Before arriving in Beirut, every email I sent was answered within half a day — always kindly and helpfully. Once I arrived at Saifi, I never had to email again; everything was clear, smooth, and taken care of.
What I loved most is the mix of people: complete beginners next to near-native speakers, young students next to retirees. Everyone is here out of passion for the language, and that creates a wonderful atmosphere. The café downstairs is the perfect place to sit between classes, and if you’re staying in the area, you can even rent an electric bike from a Dutch owner nearby (of course).
During the weekends, I travelled around Lebanon on my own, and every time I mentioned a plan — whether cycling along the coast or renting a car and driving into the mountains — people at Saifi immediately thought along with me. Routes, alternatives, tips… it came naturally. It made me feel supported far beyond the classroom.
In all the weeks I spent in Beirut — and elsewhere in the country — I never felt unsafe. The traffic is chaotic, yes, and if you want to cycle or rent a car like I did, you need to pay attention. But you can reach almost anywhere by taxi, bus, or minivan just as well.
I can wholeheartedly recommend Saifi. If I return to Lebanon — and I hope I will — I would certainly take classes here again.
Saifi is more than a language school. It’s a community, and I’m grateful I got to be part of it.
